How is the unit mounted?

It mounts on the boron oil drum or can with its fitting: the externally threaded connection body screws into the bung and the suction tube reaches into the concentrate.

Which lines do the water and the concentrate come through?

Mains water comes in through the inlet valve on the left, boron oil concentrate through the suction tube in the drum. The mix forms in the body and flows out through the outlet valve on the right into the hose.

How is the mixture ratio set?

With the mixture knob on the front panel. Toward + raises the oil ratio of the emulsion, toward − lowers it. Adjust in small steps and check the ratio with a refractometer.

What does the gauge show?

The pressure of the mains water reaching the unit. The dial has bar and psi scales; its highest value is the gauge's measuring range, not the unit's operating pressure.

How is the emulsion ratio measured?

A sample from the outlet is read with a refractometer and the reading is multiplied by the manufacturer's factor of the boron oil in use. The factor is given in the oil's technical data sheet or on its packaging.

What should be done after use?

As the warning on the unit's top face says, both valves must be in the closed position when the unit is not in use.

04Suction line

The tube reaches the concentrate.

The suction tube draws the boron oil concentrate from the lower part of the drum, so oil keeps coming as the level drops. The oil control rod lets you check the oil in the drum or can.

05Connections

Water to the inlet, hose to the tank.

The mains water hose goes onto the inlet valve on the left, the mixture hose onto the outlet valve on the right, each secured with a clamp. The end of the outlet hose leads to the tank or container that receives the emulsion.

06Operation

1Open the inlet valve: mains water fills the body and the gauge shows the mains pressure.
2Open the outlet valve: water starts to flow through the body.
3The flowing water draws the boron oil concentrate up the suction tube to the mixture valve.

07Pressure monitoring

Mains pressure always in view.

The gauge shows the pressure of the mains water reaching the unit, so you can keep an eye on the supply line. The dial reads in bar and psi; its highest value is the gauge's measuring range, not the unit's operating pressure.

08Mixture adjustment

Set the ratio with the knob.

The oil ratio of the emulsion is set with the mixture knob on the front panel. Turning it toward + adds more concentrate to the mix, toward − less. Adjust in small steps and check with a measurement after each one.

09Measurement

Confirm the ratio with a refractometer.

1Take a sample of the emulsion from the outlet.
2Put a few drops on the refractometer prism and close the cover.
3Multiply the reading by the manufacturer's factor of the boron oil you use: the result is the emulsion ratio.

How it works

Three lines, one body.

The BYK-1000 mixes water-based boron oils with water. Mains water from the inlet on the left passes through the body; boron oil concentrate from the suction tube in the drum joins it at the ratio set by the mixture knob on the front panel.

The emulsion leaves through the outlet on the right into the hose and on to the machine's coolant tank or a collection container. The gauge lets you check the mains pressure, the oil control rod the oil in the drum.

Mount
Screw the unit, with its suction tube, into the bung of the boron oil drum or can.

Connect
Fit the mains water hose to the inlet (GİRİŞ) valve and the mixture hose to the outlet (ÇIKIŞ) valve, and clamp them.

Open
Open the inlet valve first, then the outlet valve; check the mains pressure on the gauge.

Adjust and measure
Turn the mixture knob in small steps, take a sample at the outlet and measure it with a refractometer.

Close
When you have finished, close both valves.

CAUTION: When the unit is not in use, both valves must be in the closed position (warning on the unit's top face).

Ratio check

Refractometer reading × manufacturer's factor.

The emulsion ratio is checked with a refractometer. The reading is converted to the real ratio by multiplying it by the manufacturer's factor of the boron oil in use; the factor is given in the oil's technical data sheet or on its packaging. The mixture setting is changed in small steps and the measurement repeated until the target ratio is reached.
