Spot cold air from compressed air.

TVX-15 splits compressed air into a hot and a cold stream with no moving parts. A flexible hose takes the cold stream exactly where it is needed.

What is it?

A mechanical cooler driven by compressed air.

A vortex tube is a mechanical device that splits compressed air or an inert gas into hot and cold streams. On TVX-15 the cold stream is directed straight to the spot to be cooled through a segmented hose and nozzle.

There are no rotating, wearing or lubricated parts inside. The catalogue describes it as a low-cost, reliable and maintenance-free answer to industrial cooling problems.

How does it work?

From one inlet to two outlets.

Schematic of the general vortex-tube principle. The inside of the product is not shown.

  1. 01

Compressed air enters at the fitting and rises through the post into the body.

  2. 02

In the body the air becomes a fast-spinning flow. What does this is stationary; nothing moves.

  3. 03

The spinning air travels along the finned tube to the hot end and heats up; part of it leaves through the silencer.

  4. 04

The rest turns back; through energy separation it ends up colder than the inlet air and heads for the cold outlet.

  5. 05

The cold stream reaches the target through the hose and nozzle.

Energy

The tube needs air, not electricity.

TVX-15 itself has no motor, cable or electronics and needs no electrical connection. The energy it works with comes from the compressed air.

The compressor and air system that produce that air do use electricity, so running cost should be judged by the compressed air the tube uses.

Where is it used?

Wherever cooling has to be on the spot.

CNC machining

Cold air aimed at the contact zone of tool and work piece, with the tube placed next to the tool.

Electronic components

Spot air for heat-loaded components and heat sinks on boards.

Camera (CCTV) housings

Cold air fed into enclosed housings.

How to choose

What to clarify before a quote

With these details our engineers work out the right set-up for your application with you.

  • Available compressed-air line and connection point
  • What to cool: a tool, an electronic part or an enclosed space
  • Where the tube is mounted and how far the nozzle is from the target
  • Cleanliness and moisture of the compressed air
  • Duty: continuous or intermittent use

FAQ

About the vortex tube

Compressed air becomes a fast-spinning flow as it passes the stationary generator in the body. The stream near the tube wall travels to the hot end and heats up; the stream returning through the centre cools down and leaves at the opposite end. Nothing moves in the process.
